Amyris Essential Oil

Most people know about Lavender, Lemon and Tea Tree essential oils but you may not have heard of Amyris Essential Oil. It is packed with wonderful benefits that uplift the body and mind. Its often used in natural perfumes and skin care products.

Amyris balsamifera called Amyris for short, is made from the bark of the the Amyris tree found in the West Indies. It has a woody aroma similar to Sandalwood that is often used in incense for the purpose of calming the mind.  This bark contains so much oil that it is often called torch or candle wood and is used by fishermen to to make torches.

Amyris: Poor Mans Sandalwood
It contains 20-40% of a natural occurring chemical called Velaranol that is also found in the very expensive Indian Sandalwood that is now an endangered species. Velaranol is also found in Valarian root and Clary Sage in lesser concentrations. All of these essential oils are known for their ability to calm and relax.  Amyris has antiseptic, seditive, decongestant and emollient benefits. What that means to you and me is that it will help calm your mind, boost creativity, relax your muscles and can help you release stress, tension and anxiety. Plus its useful for soothing and softening skin.

I use Amyris as a therapeutic massage oil that I create using a carrier oil and Amyris Essential Oil. During a massage this oil will help relax muscles and soften your skin, and it is also brushed on to your skin to stimulate lymph flow.  You get the wonderfully relaxing benefits of massage, the lymph stimulation from brushing and the aroma and essential oil therapy of Amris.
